Little child’s bedtime prayer

As shadows fill my ev’rywhere,
I offer up this whispered prayer.

I’m grateful for this wondrous day,
Because, you know, I loved to play!

I twirled and laughed and stomped my feet,
And then I stopped to have a treat.

Today I loved the dirt and streams,
The rocks and sticks and soft daydreams.

I loved the bugs and trees and plants,
And animals that leap and prance.

Whilst golden light streams from above.
My heart grows warm t’ward those I love,

Especially those who care for me.
(Including help I cannot see.)

But now the sun has gone to rest.
And my warm bed is my snug nest.

Outside the window, it is night.
The moonbeams shine their gentle light.

And swirls of stars do glow and shine.
They speak to me in words divine.

My star comes near me as I yawn,
And stays with me until the dawn.

As sweetness of the day subsides,
I follow forth my light that guides.

And like the wind and birds that soar,
Together we sail through sleep’s door.

And when I wake in morning’s light,
My soul is full of love’s delight.
